Shutter Speed/Motion Photoshoot

Miller_Blur4

Describe:

For the shutter speed and motion photoshoot, I decided take pictures of the things around me including my family and friends, sports teams and much more. I went to soccer games, tennis matches, backyards, and outside! In order to set up my scene, I made sure I set my subject matter in front of a good background, and made sure the camera was on the proper settings in order to take the right picture for the right category.

Analyze:

Throughout this photoshoot, I decided to use the rules of composition in order to make my picture look good, and have such things as a good background. It is important to have a good background, to make sure the picture you are taking is not too busy, and has a good balance of color. I also used things like getting close, and not centering my subject. In order to use the elements and principles, I made sure to use things such as color and balance to make my picture look the best it can be!

Interpret:

In order to choose my subject matter, I took into consideration what Mrs. Hahn had recommended would be the coolest pictures for each category.for example using lights in the dark would look very cool for the blur motion, and this picture ended up being my favorite picture of the assignment! I incorporated my voice, when making sure to use bright and happy colors, and use people in my life such as family and friends. This assignment made me view my world differently, by making it harder to think of multiple ideas for the same category, so I could have a variety of different subject matters. It makes you be more aware of your surroundings, and how to capture those surroundings, based on what you are taking a picture of.

Evaluate:

My strengths for this assignment, was being able to come up with cool and interesting ideas for my pictures, including what to take pictures of, and what objects to incorporate in my photo. Weaknesses that I had during this photoshoot, included figuring out all the different settings on the camera itself, as these are somewhat different, depending on the camera you are using. One thing I would change about this assignment would be taking a class period, to fully understand the different camera settings. although this would be helpful, I also found it a good and interesting challenge to figure out the different settings on our own, and being able to experiment with the camera!

Depth Of Field Photoshoot

Miller_Shallow1

Describe:

In the depth of field photoshoot, I decided to take pictures of the things in which I live around including such things as roads, my backyard, Forest park, the courthouse, and many other things. When doing this photoshoot, I made sure to incorporate tools that I have previously used, when setting up my scene, making sure to choose a good background and matching colors, in order to make my picture flow and look good.

Analyze:

I used the rules of composition when setting up my scene, in order to make sure I used things such as Rule Of Thirds, to make my picture be more interesting to look at, and background, in order to make sure I had an interesting background to go with my focal point. Elements and principles in which I used in my photoshoot, included color (making my picture match), texture (getting up close to my subject matter), and shape/form (when making sure each object in my picture flowed together nicely.

Interpret:

As my subject matter, I used things such as nature, buildings, flowers, trees, and decorations. When taking my pictures , I tried to use a variety of subject matter, in order for all my pictures to be different from each other and interesting. I used my voice when using things around me that I enjoy including flowers, and most importantly I made sure to use some FALL decorations, since my favorite season is fall! This assignment made me view my world differently, by finding objects that had a great DOF, and a shallow DOF. This allowed me to learn the difference between the two, and I was also able to learn two different tools on my camera.

Evaluate:

Some strengths I had when doing this assignment was being able to learn how to differentiate the two different types of DOF, and using the different buttons on the camera in order to properly use these two types. Some weaknesses I had when doing this photoshoot, was getting a LOT of different subject matters and making sure my pictures didn’t look too much alike. In the end, though, I feel that I overcame this weakness and I found a lot of different subject matters. If I would have changed anything about this assignment, I would have liked to go to the country-side, and take pictures of great DOF, in a cornfield or pictures of grassy hills, ect.

Color Composition Photoshoot Reflection

Describe:

In my Photoshoot, i decided to take pictures of things around me for the weekend before/the weekend of Labor Day. For Labor Day Weekend, we always go to the lake with my family. Therefore, this was a perfect area to take pictures of things that were GREEN. In order to set up my scene, i used different compositional strategies including background, rule of thirds, and COLOR! I made sure to use different things for each picture, so the pictures would be unique from one another and use different rules encooperated within each picture.

Analyze:

In the color Photoshoot, i used the rules of Composition in many different ways. Some of which including knowing how to set up my picture using ‘Avoiding The Middle’, and ‘Rule of Thirds’. In order to make my picture the best it could be, I had to make sure i applied my knowledge from previous photoshoots, to make my picture not too busy, and making sure i used the right amount of GREEN! The elements and principals i used within my color composition Photoshoot included color, shape, pattern and texture. I had to make sure i was sticking to the color i was assigned, and had to have an open eye in what i was taking a picture of, focusing on different patterns and textures.

Interpret:

My subject matter included a variety of objects, and what was around me. Many of my photos were taken at the lakehouse, which consisted of the water, things on the deck, the “beach”, trees, plants, and my family. I incoperated my VOICE, when i sued the lake since going to the lake is one of my favorite times of the year. I also incoperated something that means the most to me which is family. This assignment made me view my world differently, because you had to have an open mind and an open eye when trying to find a verity of pictures, that were mainly green.

Evaluate:

Some of my strengths during this assignment was being able to properly take a good quality picture, with the elements, principles, and composition strategies. Some of my weaknesses could include being able to take a variety of pictures that were green, and trying to not stick with all plants and trees. If I could change something in this assignment, i would love to had picked my own color. I felt that green was FUN, but also kind of on the easier side, since landscape is green! Being able to pick another color would have been CHALLENGING and FUN!

Rules Of Composition Reflection

Miller_Gracie_Background2.JPGDescribe:

For photography, our class was to go and take 30 different pictures, 3 of each compositional strategy. For my 30 pictures, I chose to take pictures of many things including my friends and family, nature, flowers, parks, the Fairgrounds, sport pictures, and much more! One place that I took the most pictures at was Downtown. I decided to go to the square downtown, with some friends, since most of the buildings there have a lot of character and are very old building, making the pictures more interesting. In order to set up my scenes for my pictures, I mainly made sure I had a good and “clean” background, in order to make sure that my picture was not busy.

Analyze:

In order to make my pictures “better”, I used the rules of composition for creating interesting backgrounds, making my picture colorful by using ‘Creative With Colors’, and made my pictures fun, by using many more strategies. The rules of composition helped my pictures be appealing to the eye, by not making them too busy, or too simple.

Interpret:

For my subject matter, I decided to primarily use people, and nature. As an artist in particular, I chose to use my voice by using some of my favorite things such as: Downtown, my family and friends, some of my favorite colors, ect. When doing this assignment, this made me view my world differently when being able to view things through a camera, and capture the little things in life such as shadows, flowers, details and texture, and things such as window frames, lights, and character.

Evaluate:

Some of my strengths during this assignment was being able to come up with some very FUN ideas when taking different photoshoots. I also was able to capture a variety of subject matter and fun backgrounds. Some of my weaknesses during this assignment could include being able to come up with different multiples of each strategy, and not repeating the same subject matter throughout any of my rules of composition pictures/categories.

Expectation for Photography

I decided to sign up for Photography, in order to learn more about something I love to do in my free time. I love to take and edit pictures, and knew that this class would 1) Make me enjoy it even more and 2) Learn how to properly take worthy pictures, and how to edit pictures as well! At the end of photography this year, I would like to know how to properly work different types of cameras, how to take good quality pictures, and how to edit pictures to make them look the  best they can! In the future I would love to have photography as a hobby! I feel it would be very enjoyable to pursuit my photography knowledge in taking family pictures, graduation pictures, and MUCH more. As my teacher, Mrs. Hahn can teach me how to use the tools that are available to me (camera, photoshop, other editing apps, ect.). Mrs. Hahn can also teach me how to make the pictures I take, have good quality when taking the picture, and how to make my pictures GREAT.

Metal Metaphor Sculpture

The Metaphor I chose for our metal Sculpture, was “You are my sunshine.” The Metaphor is saying that the sun is happy, fun, and that they are describing a person that way in their life as well. This Metaphor can also mean that sunshine reminds us of happy thoughts, and they could be talking about someone in that perspective as well.

3D Design FINAL

This year, my freshman year, I decided to take the class 3D art. At first, I took this class so I could participate in photograhphy my sophomore year. As we got into the year, and started making such things as paper models, clay, and finally metal and such things, I enjoyed this class, and looked forward to coming and finishing my projects. In this class, one thing I learned was to be you and to express who you are and your personality in everything you do. You will enjoy and love your projects even more if you put some of who you are in it, because at the end of the day, the artwork is YOURS and it should incooperate some of your personality. In this class we made paper homes and shadow boxes, wood consumer projects, wood shapes, clay pinch pots and whistles, and pieces of art sculpted out of metal.

My work as a whole met the requirements, since I made sure to look at each direction, if my teacher posted them on the Canvas module. Specifically in my paper projects, I used the elements of art including texture, shape, and form. I used these three elements, by making sure each of my shapes and cuts, fit in the sections of the paper project in which I needed them to. I used texture when adding creativity to my project, and making certain areas in the paper sculpture capture the eye of the person viewing my artwork. In my wood project, I used shape, since the cutting of the wood had to be very exact, to be able to fit into the spaces provided. For our clay project I had to use texture and form. I had to use texture when doing scrafitto to add design in the clay to make the clay work look like my intentions. For the metal project, it was very important to use shape and line for all the different cuts and how to make the metal cooperate with your metaphor.

In my artwork, even though it was an assignment, in order to make your artwork the best it can be, you have to add a bit of your interests, personality, and YOU! In my paper artwork, I designed my house, which I have been living in my whole life. For such things as my clay tile, I used to encooperate the tree of life. This is important and significant to me, because my family go to Disney almost every year, and it’s a family tradition. I also decided to use the tree of life, since when I was little, my whole family went to Disney world, and the tree of life is one of our many favortites! When creating my artwork, I decided to use specific colors that I love, and colors to match what I was planning on creating. When also creating my consumer wood project, the initials represent my little cousin, and I decided to use her for the my project and create something that matched her room. During my art class throughout the whole year, I used my interests and family in my projects, and that made me love them even more!

This year, overall, was a success. I learned many things I had not known including how to sculpt plaster the correct way. I learned what tools to use when you are creating art with different materials. In a project perspective, projects including my c,ay projects, were better than the rest. I thought these turned out a lot better than my other projects, since they were fun and creative, and you got to put more of who you are as a person in these artworks. Throughout the year, some strengths of mine included designing the project to make it the best it can be and having the idea of what I wanted to create. Some weaknesses, could include finding what it is I wanted to make, as I am picky. In my future art classes, I plan to participate in photography and further photography classes!!

Whistle/Tile Project

In our 3D art class, we were told we were going to be designing a clay whistle. The design process I used within my clay art project was with clay, and used a variety of different design methods. Types of designs I use include scrafitto, to sculpture different designs within my art piece. The design I created on my clay whistle was a camel, and the designs I chose to use were very important in order to clearly see what the clay whistle was designed to look like.  Now that my whistle is completed, one thing that was very successful for me was the color within the piece, and how they overall turned out. My clay whistle was very detailed, and each detail, even with painting the many different colors, turned out very good. One thing I would have done differently in this was to think clearly of the animal I wanted to create within my artwork. My first intentions were to create another llama, but as I was designing the piece and with help of my peers, the clay whistle looked more like the camel I created.  Overall, I am very pleased with how this piece of art turned out!

Lastly in our clay unit, we were to create a clay tile of a place that meant a lot to us. We were to chose a place, look up a a picture of that certain place, and create a clay tile with that.   The place I chose to resemble on my tile was The Tree Of Life, in Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. This place meant a lot to me since Disney is a big family tradition in my family, and we have been many times. This scene reminds me of trips to Disney World, with my whole family from when I was little, to now. I feel that this project was more difficult than the whistle project, since it required much more design than the whistle design, therefore was harder to sculpt and add pices to the tile. I enjoyed the tile project more than the clay whistle project, since we got to choose a scene that meant a lot to us, and it was very fun to get to chose this scene, and get to design it. One thing I found challenging about this project was the amount of design and adding clay this project needed. Although this did not surprise me, it was very time consuming, but the overall turnout of the project was good!

Clay Pinch Pot

In 2nd semester of our 3D art class, we were told we would be designing a clay pinch pot, and having a decoration/design of our choice shown within the clay pinch pot. The pinch pot was made with normal grey clay, and designed using the sgraffito design. When our class was told that we would be designing this clay project, my first thought was that this was going to be very difficult since clay was hard to sculpt and design. Designing the clay pinch pot was difficult, but after I desired I was going to design a llama within my pot, the project was somewhat simple. If I were to go back and redesign this pot, one thing I would have done is spend a little bit more time on the designs within the llama, since this was the longest part in the process. Overall, I am pleased with my project and happy with how this turned out.
